Compatriot Brent Downing presents the Certificate of Appreciation to Commander John Cubit of Island X-12, Navy Seabee Veterans of America. The presentation of the Certificate of Appreciation by the Rochester Chapter, ESSSAR, to Island X-12 took place on 20 October 2012 at the Ira Jacobson American Legion Post. The certificate was for their ongoing work in restoring veteran’s graves in the Charlotte Cemetery next to the post home. There is at least one Revolutionary War veteran buried in this cemetery.
Compatriot Steve Clarke's brother, Albert, is working on a complete and fully detailed genealogy of the Lincoln family of Saratoga County, NY, where Al lives. Along the way, he learned that not only was Nedabiah Lincoln a Revolutionary War veteran, but that the cemetery where he was buried was neglected and run down. Working with the Town of Corinth and a private contractor hired by Al, the cemetery has been restored to the extent possible and the weeds and overgrowth removed. The cemetery is now under the proper care of the Town of Corinth. Al contacted Steve to find out what markers were available for Revolutionary War Patriots and the Rochester Chapter provided an SAR Patriot marker for Nedabiah's grave. Rochester Chapter compatriots Steve Clarke, Mike Tunison, Bob Coomber and Brent Downing at the dedication of a Veteran's Administration marker for Patriot Joseph Graves. This was the first grave marker Graves ever had. A descendant of Graves brought to our attention that he did not have a marker and the Chapter worked with the VA to obtain one for him.
